colourlovers.com is a website where you can search color families by theme. I thought while I was on the same theme as the previous post, I wanted to post about this as well. It is such a good resource. We used it this semester to find a color theme for speak magazine, and the options were really endless. It helps a lot to have the color schemes laid out like this, because you can see how the colors interact with each other.
Dafont.com
This link leads to a website that is a great source for Graphic Designers. Dafont.com is a website where you can search different fonts by type, category or theme. There are so many great options, mostly listed by users of the site. I thought it was a resource that should be shared.

Street Art
This website has a pretty cool display of original street art. I found it interesting the things these artists will do, and how they work within the existing environment to create these pieces of work.

Herbert W. Franke essay
This article was easier to read than the last few that have been assigned. Although he was very wordy, it was interesting to hear someone talk so openly about the possibilities of using computers in art. At the time, I'm sure there were many who opposed this idea, but it seems that Franke embraced this new media.
At one point he compares the way a computer processes, to how a human processes, and I thought that was very interesting. We build our machines to be like us and process like us, but now they might even be smarter than us. I like the idea of using the computer as an art form, as that is what I'm going to school for: new media design. It's really interesting how far computers have come and how much we have evolved to keep up with the other. It's as if you don't know which is evolving faster, the computer or the human.

The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore (2011)
This is the movie we are using for our project. It's pretty good animation, even winning awards over Pixar.

Essay Review
My initial reaction to this article was how long it was. It talks about how, prior to the 21st century it was much more difficult to reproduce, but after the lithograph, things began to happen much more easily. This reminds me of the video we watched where they were discussing 3d printing, and how far we really have come in all these years. From only being able to recreate things one by one, to being able to 3d print an object, designed on a computer, right from your computer. We are now even able to re-make famous sculptures, so that no more art will have to be lost to the perils of time.
What is art though, is the question we must ask ourselves, when things can be reproduced and copied time and time again. Is anything truly original anymore? Does someone creating a sculpture in autocad and 3d printing it hold the same reverence of someone who carved an equal statue from marble? I think not. It really is interesting though, how it all changes as time changes. And we humans will continue to adapt and explore new, easier avenues to create art as time goes on.

Digital vs analog

For my digital vs analog post, I decided to compare the board game scrabble with the iPhone game, words with friends. It is interesting to me how this game has transformed across platforms, and has gained huge popularity among my peers and I. In words with friends, you are basically playing scrabble across an online platform, against people you know. I enjoy it, because I feel like it keeps me on my feet and able to heard new things, and I can play while on the go and in my free time, whereas with the board game, you obviously have to be sitting playing with people at a specific time. I think really there is a time and place for both versions.

Digital Art- First Post
Light-Paint Piano Player from Ryan Cashman on Vimeo.
I thought this particular video was interesting, because it literally could not have bee done without the digital, from the images, to the sound layered on top of it. Overall I thought it was pretty clever.
